Who We Are
The Rotary Environment Foundation (REF) was created to channel Rotarians' passion for service into long-term environmental transformation — one that nurtures both nature and communities.
Our Purpose
Founded in 2020, the Rotary Environment Foundation (REF) was created to channel Rotarians' passion for service into long-term environmental transformation — one that nurtures both nature and communities.
We believe that true ecological restoration must create livelihood, learning, and local ownership, not just trees on paper.
REF advances Rotary International's Seventh Area of Focus — Protecting the Environment — while intersecting with other areas such as Community Economic Development, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) through holistic green initiatives.
Our Philosophy
Plant with Purpose:
Every sapling contributes ecological, economic, and social value — restoring soil health, reviving biodiversity, and supporting rural livelihoods.
Partner with People:
Projects are co-created with Rotary and Rotaract clubs, local trusts, schools, temples, and self-help groups, ensuring that communities become long-term stewards of the environment.
Protect for Posterity:
Continuous care, monitoring, and transparent reporting guarantee sustainable impact — ensuring that today's plantations become tomorrow's forests.
Our Approach
Native Species and Scientific Design:
Every plantation uses locally resilient, fruit-bearing, and medicinal species for biodiversity and livelihood value.
Water & Soil Conservation:
Integrated watershed and soil management practices rejuvenate lakes, restore groundwater, and enhance agricultural potential.
Community-Driven Maintenance:
Local participation ensures ownership — from Rotary Clubs, Rotaract Clubs, Local trusts to women's SHGs and School eco-clubs.
Transparent Reporting & Verification:
Each project is tracked, geo-tagged, and impact-audited for measurable outcomes. REF works closely with Rotary clubs across districts, local panchayats, educational institutions, and environmental NGOs to ensure sustainability and scale.
Our Core Values
These principles guide every decision we make and every action we take, ensuring we stay true to our mission and our community.
Sustainability
We implement long-term solutions that respect ecological balance and ensure lasting environmental health.
Community Engagement
We believe in the power of collective action, working hand-in-hand with local communities to create shared success.
Transparency
We operate with complete openness, ensuring our partners, donors, and communities trust in our work and its impact.
Leadership
Formed in 2020, REF is a Rotary-inspired trust working to advance Rotary's seventh area of focus — Protecting the Environment. It unites Rotarians, philanthropists, corporates, and citizens to drive reforestation, ecological restoration, and livelihood creation across India.
REF operates with transparency, community participation, and measurable outcomes. Each project is implemented through Rotary clubs, local trusts, and institutional partners.
